2023
Saturday, February 4, 2023: Three Songs on Poems of Anne Michaels by Christos Hatzis
University of Toronto New Music Festival
UTNMF: Hatzis @ 70, Walter Hall
Originally commissioned for performances in 2021 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Canadian Art Song Project’s founding, this collection of three songs for tenor and piano defies idiomatic convention, offering moments inspired by classical, jazz and folk music traditions. Pianist Steven Philcox and tenor Lawrence Wiliford offer the premiere live performance of this work as part of the celebratory concert honoring the 70th birthday of composer Christos Hatzis.
Sunday, May 7, 2023: The Art of the Art Song at Heliconian Hall
Syrinx Concerts Toronto
Pianist Steven Philcox and tenor Lawrence Wiliford present a lecture recital with Linda and Michael Hutchon that explores the topic of “Art Song”. The concert will culminate in the premiere performance of a new song cycle by Cecilia Livingston, commissioned by the Hutcheons.
