Canadian Art Song Project is happy to announce the commissioning of a set of three songs by composer Roydon Tse. The songs, collectively entitled Triptych, explore perspectives on death and loss through three poems by poets Edward Thomas, Edwin Muir and Ina Coolbrith. Bass Matthew Li will premiere the songs later this season in Montreal.
Named one of CBC Music’s Top “30 under 30” Canadian Classical Musicians, Dr. Roydon Tse is a multiple award-winning Chinese-Canadian composer and educator based in Toronto. His music has been commissioned & performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Esprit Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, & members of the Paris Opera and La Scala Orchestras, among others. He is currently a 2023/24 Artist-in-Residence with the Colorado Wind Ensemble and was a 2021/22 Nextgen Composer with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Roydon teaches for the Canadian Opera Company and is a resident faculty for the Lunenburg Academy of Music Composition Program in 2023.
We are very excited about Tse’s latest contribution to the Canadian song repertoire and look forward to announcing the premiere in the coming months.
